: Was the title of this work by any chance a reference to the
: "somersault" type mechanical signals as used on the former GNR in the
: U.K.?
Yes, being the Signalling Records Socity, then Somersault is a very good
name.
There are still many Somersault signals in Victoria.
Eltham - Hurstbridge, Flemington Racecourse, Geelong, Bacchus Marsh,
Bedigo Line (no longer at Sunbury) and many others around usually
just a quandrant or two operating them, like Stony Point, Morwell,
Lilydale, Sale, (and everywhere else in the country)
: I have a vague recollection of having seen something that looked very
: much like one of these in an old film (late 40s) shot just outside
: Flinders Street Station, and remember being surprised at the time as I
: didn't know that they had been used anywhere else.
