 Its not a matter of IF, its a matter of WHEN. The guards will eventually go in their
current form, and the trains (8 car 2000 passnger sparks) will be DOO in the usual sense.

 Once the last of the train operation duties are taken off the current 'guards' they will
be no longer guards in the old railway sense any more.

 No matter what title they are given, suburban train guard's job will be eventually simply
'hired heavies to keep the rabble in line', not a whole lot different from the contract
heavies that currently patrol trains.

 
 Im sure it will be a long fight by the unions and some of the public to keep them, but
in the long term I cant see them staying. Urban railway systems are losing the traditional
'guard' all over the world and seperate non-railway staff being contracted to do the 
'passenger security' role.
