But that omits to get the information they need!  

All they need is where you came from (house or Melways reference),
where you need to go to (house or Melways), when, and how frequently 
you do the trip.  

And they should survey ALL travellers, not just train, tram, bus.

With that information they will be able to see how inadequate or 
otherwise their present routes and services are and what should be done 
about them.  Any clustering is a candidate for a new and profitable 
route.
