Also have a look at Compupic 4.0 (http://www.photodex.com) as a
Digital Content Manager.  As well as giving you on-screen thumbnails,
it will crop, resize, adjust color/sharpness with very simple single
letter keyboard commands.

Shareware ca. USD$50, it's also about 10% of Photoshop 5.0 (an
excellent program, BTW, but probably overkill for what you want).
