Melbourne did it on the cheap, mirrors and Station CCTV, the union pushed
for on train CCTV but didn't acheive it. Sydney maybe able to fund on train
CCTV, (Thats if the Olympics don't send you broke first)<g>

I mean that no matter what the problems maybe, there is a solution out
there, be it in Melbourne/Sydney/Timbuktoo. No problem is insurmountable.

Craig,

I agree, no one expects DOO to come in over night, it will take months maybe
a year or two of trials. On the less ethical side of the issue, (money),
when they start offering 22.5% pay increases (Melbournes SPO DOO rate) the
pressure will be on the Locomotive Division to push DOO along. If there is
one thing that makes people accept change its money!!!

I might point out here that I don't believe unionists should trade other
peoples jobs off for money, but if the changes are to come (and it was
management that wanted and pushed DOO here), those DOO-ing (sorry) the work
need to be compenstated.

As for needing to work on Cityrail to appreciate the difficulties, in many
respects I would agree, however any Engineman has the basic knowledge to nut
most problems through, that would apply equaly to a Cityrail Driver coming
to Melbourne, (as we have 3 or 4 started here this year, they had very
little trouble working things out, they have settled in rather well in
fact).

Regards,

Bob.
