Either way, some passengers are going to be 4 car lengths from a crew
member.

The guard is also in the middle of 6-car trains in Brisbane. It gives better
sighting on curved platforms - s/he only has to look 4 car lengths around
the curve, instead of 8.

One thing that has not been pointed out in this thread so far (or if it has,
it has not appeared on my server yet) is the requirement for audible opening
and closing alerts. I believe it was a requirement in Melbourne?

Given the very large fleet in Sydney, it will take a very long time for them
to do all of it.

I think they will balk at the the cost, and decide to only do Tangarbages,
with DOO in off-peak periods only, and during the day on weekdays.

Weekends, and evenings, when just about all trains are 4 cars, would be
Tangara only.
