Re: SLR

I walked over the line from Wentworth Park to Lilyfield late on the
afternoon of 14 September. The only sign of work at that stage was some
digging to locate underbridge abutments beneath the ballast and the tunnel
had been recently barricaded at each end with a wall of square galvanised
steel rods (or bars) to prevent unauthorised entry.

The Lilyfield end is a real mess! The outbound (from the city) track had
been removed for a hundred metres or so to put in a drain. The outbound
track had been joined to the inbound track at the western end, probably when
the line was first converted and the RSA track machines had to be brought
that way to do the track relaying on the private right-of-way from Hay
Street to Wentworth Park. Just clear of the western end of the overbridge
at Lilyfield is a signal facing the outbound track. It appears to have been
showing red since the railway closed. Protecting the junction from goodness
knows what!
