Slightly off course, Australian National's DL class
were a classic example of a "medium" sized loco with a
3000 hp 12 cylinder engine.

DL36 when new was tested with a 6000 tonne coal train,
no problems. They always singled the Ghan effortlessly
no matter how long or heavy, as quick as any other with
100% reliability.

They are still hauling National Rail trains, albeit
playing second fiddle to the NR class. Even "well and
truly converted" National Rail drivers admit the DL
pulling power is not in doubt, in fact, some drivers
have reported they "dig in" like you would not believe,
but the cab layout is not to their liking.
Heh Heh, softy's .........no CD player. ;-)

As for a 3000 hp X class, well, remember the DL's.
