Maurie is right, either the States have to agree with
national uniform working and charges or get out of the
standard gauge network completely and turn their
mainline(s) from Brisbane - Sydney - Melbourne - Vic
border - Kalgoorlie - Perth over to the Feds, including
the Blue Mountain route via Broken Hill.

The Bi-Cenntenial National Roads programme initiated by
the Fraser Liberal government way back pre Labor/Hawke,
resulted in the National Highway scheme, sealed roads
all the way around and through the centre of Australia.

It would be nice to see a national railways programme.
