In QR, both ATC and ATP can only take control of the braking system. The
driver has full control of the train but if he ignores warnings issued by
the ATC/ATP system, either a full service or an emergency application of the
brakes will result, depending on the severity of the situation. It's just
like a hi-tech VCS really.

Therefore, the term Automatic Train Protection would be the correct one give
the system does not actually control the train.
