When they first went in, I was told they were for testing the traffic light
transponders on the trams. They normally flash, but when a tram with a
working transponder goes over it, it is supposed to go steady. Could be an
urban myth.......

P.S. As if any of the dipshit tram drivers would even notice or care if
their transponder didn't work anyway.
