South of Dundas Street, the trams in St Georges Road and High Street are
fed from the north by lines well away from the railway, and they deviate
from parallelling the railway in North Fitzroy and Clifton Hill
respectively. Additionally there are many customers along St Georges
Road and High Street who are closer to the tram than the train.

North of Dundas Street, the railway line swings closer to High Street
and provides an adequate railed service. There is no railed service in
Gilbert Road north of Regent Street and one could be provided serving
more unserved people more cheaply by extending the West Preston tram
line than by installing a much longer, completely new line along High
Street to Resevoir for people already served by the train.
