Thanks for reminding me. 

Ryan was the Pentridge prisoner who escaped. A warder was shot... in the
back.... clearly by another guard shooting at Ryan. But Henry Bolte
hanged Ryan for it in 1967. The last man hanged in Australia. And Bolte
was knighted for his deed.

To attempt to get this on topic, the No 19 tram then and now ran past
the site of the prison. I think it is gone, now.
