If we're getting away from railways onto altered road signs, I offer a
special favourite (at a site in Winston Hills, NSW, Australia, Earth, if
I recall correctly). First there was a sign with symbolic ducks,
endorsed with DUCKS CROSSING. A few hundred metres further on, there was
one of those speed hump signs, with a black blocked-in semi-circle above
a horizontal straight line. It had been duly endorsed (in
official-looking printing) SNAILS CROSSING.
