If anything like the 4D's (Quoting second hand info here btw), yes they do. 
Re the recent thread on the 4D failing at Chatham, aparently the cause was 
one too many wheelslip cut-outs caused by leaves falling onto the tracks. 

As a result, an extra circuit was added to allow the driver to reset the 
system, and failing that, the cabs had been equipped with a bucket of sand 
for the drivers to use in the event of excessive slippages. Once again, 
don't quote me on it, it is something that i was told and i have probably 
got it wrong anyway :)
