Indeed.  When HST power cars were used as driving trailers on the East
Coast route prior to delivery of the Mk4 stock, they were initially set to
idle but it was found that the engines were being damaged by this.  They
were then set to assist the Cl.91, which I have heard gave extremely
impressive acceleration...
