A few things a'changing....
G'day,
have noted the following of late:
Spencer Street - Info desk moved to outside former country office.
North end portion of the mural is gone - but fear not, it is to be
re-erected when footbridge works are completed. Footbridge work well
advanced, much piledriving on platforms going on. A new road bridge is
going across the pass yard sidings - the signal bridge near No. 1 box
has been abolished, signals are now on the ground, signal bridge will
soon be removed.
At Yarraville - signals with LED's rather than traditional globes.
These are sensational - their visiblity is FAR, FAR better than old
colour light jobs. It's lots and lots of LED's together forming one
intensely bright signal. I wonder if a tri-colour LED setup in a single
'light' could be used to produce the three colours? At this stage, they
retain 3 individual 'lights'.
The Spotswood points for the glass siding are now very rough, with a
30km/h speed restriction on down trains. Hmmm, wonders if they'll be
removed before privatisation.
80km/h speed restriction on the west line STILL in force at Laverton,
and has been there for a long time now.
Several level crossings have been replaced between Sth Geelong and
Warrnambool with concrete-sleepers track panels. Several more are to be
done before welding commences. Timber sleepered panels are currently on
the ground at Boorcan - it appears Boorcan will also be removed shortly.
At Warrnambool, points connecting the maintenance shed with No. 2 road
have been installed, but not yet commisioned.
Evening Waurn Ponds goods continues to be run by multi-small loco's, T
and H generally, P also sighted. T+H+T tonight (Thurs 4/2), as they
notched up under the station canopy at Geelong the exhaust totally
obliterated visiblity (and deafened all on the platform!!) I think the
VLF drivers take great pleasure in doing this! (:
Cheers,
CH.
