Well no, but the delay sounds like it was longer than it needed to be.
How long does it take to put out a fire? Why could thry run empty
trains but not full ones if it was that bad?

Well, some buses probably should be kept in reserve for just such a
situation! It happens from time to time - a suicide on the tracks or
whatever.

And why wasn't this guy, with a connecting train to catch and little
else in the way of other options, put on the first available bus?
Surely it doesn't take that long for a single bus to materialise?

Why couldn't some of the trains be run on the down line? That would
create chaos for the down trains which would be disrupted but at least
the passengers can be moved, and the inconvenience is shared around.

Given that this particular passenger was in somewhat of a unique
situation and asked Hillside staff for help, why didn't they get him a
cab to spencer st, or at least to box hill? It would have been cheaper
than the one from benalla to shepp.

I agree that they should pay for the cab from benalla. Regardless of
whether they could have avoided the problem, they should pay for loss
sustained when such a major service disruption occurs. Its all part of
providing a good service.

VLine and Countrylink, on the other hand, have acted beyond the call of
duty in catering for him as best they could. This is to be applauded.
