Murwillumbah is generally considered to be in a marginal electorate in both
the state and federal arenas so I don't thick its likely the line will close
barring some form of natural disaster.  The area still has much potential
rail freight offering:
- Petroleum products from Brisbane to Casino & Lismore.
- Sugar from Condong Mill (instead of trucking it to Grafton).
- Perhaps in the more competitive rail environment of today the banana
transport traffic could be won back.
- Dairy products from the NORCO depots to the south.
