I live here in Byron Bay and have waited for over 20 years for an
announcement that the Casino to Murwillumbah line is to be closed. But this
dinosaur from the past is still open, the announcement has never come. I
wonder if the line could be put to better use if it were closed to trains
and the track be turned into a cycling and walking track. The line traverses
through some of the best tourist scenery in NSW. My guess is that made into
a recreation trail it may carry more people and goods by bicycle and foot
than it now does by train.
