I see an analogy with airline operation and air traffic control looming.
Each individual airline has it's own schedule but these are affected by
delays, charters, diversions, etc. which are all handled in real time by air
traffic controllers. Can see the same thing happening with rail operators
now. Mind you, I used to prefer the old ways too.......
