even more difficult to close the tap on the rear of a train hauled by a C Class on the
Benalla Viaduct....after a guard too lazy to walk up from Benalla Loop stayed on board the
van and pulled the tap at 50mph [in run8] as the rear of the train neared the SG plat. The
resulting loss of air caused the van to buck, uncoupling and the {Mets] train ended up
stranded on the [walkway less] bridge. The guard quickly disappeared and as there was no way
off, we waited till a Telecom Guy came accross the flood plain and asked us if we needed
help...!!! { eh...Do you think you could walk to the back of our train and close the
tap...you will hear where it is???} Guess we dont miss guards around here much..too much
bloody trouble. And anyway, why are they so interested in getting there hands on the 'master
controller"// Whty dont they just do the study and pass their exams for driving?
In Victoria, no guards left, except at SteamRail and the like And I for one have not missed
the lost position, although do miss a lot of good men.
