Actually, I prefer the Sydney method. All stations eventually get announced
along the route as the announcements are not too often to be annoying but
are done in around half dozen snatches so if you are new or not familiar
with Sydney geography or even just unsure of any station order except that
you have to get off at station X - the Sydney way your station will be
announced and you have some idea of how far to go once it is announced. The
Melbourne way, if you don't get on in the city where the stations are fully
listed on the CRT, you are on your own to check the timetable or look at the
timetable map in the timetable booklet or something else - not an impossible
situation but not quite as convenient. Unless you are blind of course...
