Re: Three-letter codes



There is nothing to require that airlines and railways use the same
three-letter codes, and there is much to prevent replication.
Airline codes cover the whole world; RoA codes cover only Australia.

One of the problems with the RoA codes is their lack of logic.  I don't
think that anybody except RoA would use LSY for Lismore.
A couple of years ago I initiated a thread on RoA's day coding.  Most of
the world's transport uses 1 for Mon through to 7 for Sun.
RoA adopted the Portugueses and Brazilian system: 1 for Sun through to 7
for Sat.
I doscovered that the RoA system is also based on bibilical precedent.  I
had misinterpreted the quote 'On the seventh day thou shalt rest'.
