It means that the trip had been in such a position to activate the trip. The
trip is a little lever on the front-left of the leading bogie. It is bassically
an air tap, so that when it gets "TRIPPED" it dumps the air in the brakes to
stop you.

The trip is designed to be activated when a train pass' a signal at stop or is
not obeying the speed prving on that section of track.

The trip is supposed to automatically reset after this. BUT, it can cause other
problems with the on board computer.

My solution: influence with a large hammer :-}
