WCR Ballarat East Loco (6/7/98)

G'day,

made the trek north to our Ballarat East Workshops for the first time in
a few months, and found:

R711 substantially complete in no. 1 road of the shed. The modified
tender is now behind the loco - it looks similar to when R707 had the
pulverised brown coal mods. Loco is about 5 weeks from completion.
S302 in no. 2 road
RMS (Southern Aurora diner) under the fuel point, Tambo must have been
tucked away somewhere there too, although I wasn't looking for it.
Nankuri in the yard, I had a look at this vehicle, internally it's in
quite good shape. It appears V/Line didn't bother to clean it prior to
storing it (has a bit of rubbish strewn about, nothing you couldn't fix
in about 30 mins), otherwise it's in pretty good condition. It's bloody
hard to get into though, it's handrails were removed!
S312, T411, T363, T369, WAL951 etc all present and accounted for. The 4
B's still lined up near the entrance roadway. Y112 and J536 are stabled
on adjacent turntable run-offs. Bits of a D3 are stored on the opposite
side of the turntable (on the 'up' side). The 'new' RT ex-Yarrawonga
Munitions Factory is also on a turntable runoff. BRS222 with gleaming
new paint is being worked on behind the fuel point, it's still a month
or so from completion. BK709 is derelict and will be scrapped. BS212
is being repainted at Ballarat North Workshops, it should be near
completion. The yard will be 'chockas' when
S300-PCO2-BM259-BZ269-BK700-BK714-BK711 arrive on Tues 7/7 with a
special empty car move via North Shore. Main times are
