I forgot to ask, but coming home tonight, the building was locked, with the
machines (including validators) inside it. The big promotional sign was still
outside, it'll be interesting to see if that comes to any grief from our local
vandals over the weekend!

I rang the MetCard information line to ask. The lady said she didn't know, but
she'd ask "the powers that be" and get back to me. She did reveal something I
didn't know - apparently the ticket machines have protective screens which
descend after train operations have ceased for the night. Hmmm...
