Re: Weekend Timetables on Weekday
I agree - the idea was good - even at Fassifern around 2300 to 0200 there
seemed to be extra services passing through, even the station was staffed
during this time as I could just hear the announcements.
I thought is strange that the Telegraph carried a story stating the they
were told that "Rolling Stock Shortages" would not allow a full timetable
on New Years Eve.

: Well, you really said it all in your opening paragraph..... service
: levels that may pass for satisfactory in the "'lesser' city of
: Melbourne" would be inadequate in Sydney. CityRail committed to
: running a 10 minute service on all main suburban routes throughout New
: Years Eve and up to 4 am on New Years Day, accompanied by access road
: closures in many areas around the harbour from 4pm on New Years Eve.
: There were also commensurate lifts in STA bus and ferry service
: levels.
:
: In other words, there was a co-ordinated effort to shift traffic to
: public transport on New Years Eve.
:
: In order to maintain a 10 minute service frequency overnight, Cityrail
: crew rosters had to be dramatically altered to provide adequate
: crewing which could not be realistically handled just by overtime.
