How about a simple setup like Parramatta's? Their over the concourse the
have the large LED display, which is in use the vast majority of the
time. However, at ground level they have left in place the old
wood-blocks-in-a-frame, presumably for use in the event of malfunction
of the LED display.

Simple, yet quite effective I would imagine.
