Robert: reading the history of the projects we now know as the Harbour
Bridge and City Railway, it is clear that the work was done in fits and
starts. Funding was an issue, much as it is today, and some components of
the vision just didn't get up. Others took a long time (Circular Quay) or
took on a different form (Eastern Subs). The Depression was a very real
economic disaster - and rural Australia suffered mightily.
