Look! National Rail have cost the Aussie Tax payer at least half a billion
dollars, destroyed a profitable up and running AN. And are yet to present
the Australian Tax Payer with any dividends at all. In fact for a lot of
their years they had their hand out for more.
My "beef" with National Rail, is of little importance except to me. I
regretted giving up operating long distance jets, and being returned to
Passenger trains, by Husseys Union dominated raiders. I regretted all my
Union Comrades jumping ship for a few dollars, and selling out to the
bosses, leaving State employees in South Australia and Victoria to the dole
offiices .
AS it turned out Victoria did not suffer that badly, we found that their was
life after NR, in fact not one Driver lost his job!
We recieved about 80% of NR's aggregate Wage Deal, and although our skills
were no longer being tested by operating our beloved Jets, we maintained a
healthy living, and got to go home a little more ofton, to renew our
aquaintences with wives and family.

dollars, not scrap!

I recently retired ill-health from Freight Australia, Wodonga Depot where I
was a General Class Locomotive Driver, after 25 years experience.

Mate, you may have a bit of a problem. Your venerable Mr Hussey and a very
big percentage of National Rail Drivers, recruited in Victoria and elsewhere
are Gunzels, and their is nothing wrong with that at all!
Think about it, Why on earth would anyone choose this job, hours, conditions,
noise and give up their social life, reduce their beer drinking
oportunities, miss out on sex for long periods, etc, unless they liked to
[ read wanted to]drive trains?

most of these guys were put out of jobs by National Rail, or could not cope
with working for National Rail.
Got many friends working for National Rail. You telling me that they are
telling me fibs?
V/Line and Freight Corp and AN Drivers all allow their bosses to cut corners
[read breach the rules and OH&S regs]
How else can we "Work to Rule" People accept this threat as being a
genuine weapon to use to force the Bosses to see it our way. Recently a
Suburban Company calculated that a threatened "work to Rules" action was
going to cut their Services by more than 40%, and increase their costs by $3
millions a week.
How come? this wasn't Llachland Valley or GNRS, it was a Melbourne Suburban
Electric Company!
During the last 12 months I worked, I was saddened to see Victorian Union
Bosses appear to be out to get GNRS.
Several of the OH&S breaches could have been discovered and reported by
them, in my oppinion. I had a feeling that the Union had secretly decided to
dirty this opperation. I am not saying that these breaches did not occur,
but I do suggest that Freight Australia and National Rail Enginemen in
Victoria, do breach these same regulations whenever it suits them!
Most working Engineman still tend to think OH&S is just jobs for the boys
anyway.
