Excess NR Locos for Sale

In todays (23/5/01) Financial Review (also at www.afr.com.au ) under the
headline-
 "PM backs new plan for rail sell-off"
It began by stating that "The Federal Government plans to link National Rail
Corporation and FreightCorp before selling them in a $1.6 billion
privatisation this year."
It concluded: "To overcome the ACCC's concerns the Federal Government is
understood to be considering having National Rail sell some of its excess
locomotives and rolling stock."
"This rolling stock would then be sold to other industry players to boost
competition."

This is a big change to NR's reluctance to sell any rolling stock to any
competitors.

What will become of its older locomotives? BLs 81s and the Cs?

Will a C class ever be preserved??
