Not addressing specifically Countrylink's Valenta's here, but looking at the
Valenta as a whole, considering they went into 185 Class 43 power cars on
British Rail, and which are extremely heavily utilised, I would think that
any failure rates of these engines are attributable not to the quality of
the engine, but due to their extremely high usage.

And considering that the Countrylink XPT fleet currently sets world's best
practice regarding utilisation, any failures would be due to such high
utilisation, not due to the maintenance (or perceived lack of it, or
perceived quality) on the engines themselves.

So, the engineering side of Countrylink seems to be right, perhaps we should
start getting the passenger service staff to start treating the passengers
like people instead of the dregs of the earth (oops, touched a tender topic
here for Jack).
