Channel 10 and honourable intentions don't sit well together for me.  The
mini-series was produced to make a buck, any other good that came from it was
no doubt a secondary consideration.  The aviation accident series "Black Box"
shown on the ABC whilst less soap opera and more technical had the same
objectives

As for the ghouls, they're the rubber necks who watch the human suffering at
accidents and can render no assistance (albeit the ghoulish behaviour is
usually no more than unrestrained curiosity).

For others interested in railway accidents there are enough professionally
produced books on the subject (Rolt's "Red For Danger", Semmens' "Railway
Disasters of the World" and Pearce's "Australian Railway Disasters" are a few
that come to mind and that I own) to substantiate that this topic is not the
preserve of ghouls.   These books offer analysis (in varying degrees) as to
what went wrong to cause railway accidents.  The human suffering and loss of
life that results cannot be ignored or removed nor should it be.  The tragic
side is another facet of railway and transport operations generally, something
to be studied and learnt from not to be hidden or glorified.
