Re: R766 damage



I heard some news about this "on the grapevine" just this morning so I
cannot vouch for its accuracy. It was suggested that the locomotive crew was
aware of a problem with the conrod bearing sometime on the return trip from
Warrnambool. They probably thought they could complete the journey back to
Melbourne safely. Apparently the damage is very extensive and includes a
broken spoke on one of the driving wheels. It's interesting to note how
quiet things have gone on this subject and how little information has come
out.
