Re: Pacific Coast Aurora

Thanks for all the replies .and I must agree with Mark that in my experience
The Southern Aurora had a unique charm . I once did the train down and
caught the last ferry back to Sydney Tasmanian princess going to Newcastle
for a refit . Great trip it later became a Naval training vessel IIRCC .
What's puzzling me is there appears to be plenty of demand for a sleeper to
Syd melb of the style of aurora . why is it not happening?

The NSWRTM has preserved a number of ex-SA aurora cars and with two of
their other stainless steel cars it provides a reasonable replica of
what the old SA used to look like. Since it is basically a Southern
Aurora set, they call their tours <insert name here> Aurora. I
personally don't see any problem with this and I think it is a good idea
to cash in on the name and reputation of the original name when they do
provide a train that looks almost the same.

Most of the cars were converted back to broad gauge and were used on
V/Line intrastate services. Some were later sold to West Coast Railway
and preservation groups such as Steamrail and SRHC.
