Re: [MELB] City Loop issues

Maximum simplicity gives maximum reliability.
The hybrid system caused unnecessary congestion at Flinders St, but was a
political sop to the customers who didn't want to be forced to go round the
loop (an extra 8 min on a journey).
In Paris & London, most inner-city journeys involve a change of train,
because each line has its own route. The compensation is that services are
much more frequent than in Melbourne.

Short of reconfiguring the loop into two double-track routes, I would run
the trains all via the loop or all direct, but still change direction
midday.

It would help if the loop transit was faster: the low speed is not
necessary to obtain a high density (and the Melbourne loops aren't high
density).
