I haven't found it from ABC nor The Age page. But the syate government did a
study for standarlise Victorian board gauge network earlier. The study should
be complete by now, the study included country network and within
elbourne( SG port access) ...fast train service will not be effect by the
standarlisation.

Maybe the news you heard was they started up from the cheap one like SG line
to Geelong Port and Appleton Dock.

Railway Digest also have it, Adtranz Australia's homepage has got a
impression of it.

Yes, this is part of the Fast train that will be running on
Geelong/Bendigo/Ballarat and Traralgon. There is another long thread about
this project in the forum, or if you want in detail you can either down load
from DOI's homepage or go to Peter Bachleor's office oppsitte to Thomastown
station to get a freecopy of the report.

V/line will get 58 (29-2 cars set) DMUs to be build by Adtranz of Dandenong
they are to be run at 160-180kph with capability of 225kph. These DMUs will
be able to convert into tilt train in the future as well.

Cheers
James
