The first generation cars were built as prototypes, and were built with
air-conditioning fitted - they are numbered C3501-04 and D4096-99.

The next series are numbered C3505-50 and T4171-4216, and were (apart from
C3550/T4216) built with forced air ventilation equipment. They had the
standard beige interior. The last two cars of this order, C3550/T4216, were
fitted with air-conditioning when built, as the SRA wanted to have a full 8
car set available when one of the initial group were out of service (makes
you wonder why they did not air-condition the lot then). C3550/T4216 were
delivered about mid-way through this order.

The last lot, C3551-80 and T4217-T4246, were also fitted with forced air
ventilation, but had the yellow interior with the speckled yellow and brown
seating. They were retrofitted with air-conditioning a number of years ago
(late eighties?????) They can be distinguished from the earlier series by
the upper deck windows, which are a bit higher (you can tell by the rain
run-off drain).
