They probably can ,but only as individuals,which would mean many many
years of litigation and thousands of court cases ,if there were
thosands of people involved.
It would also be necessary to postively identify every single person
involved.
In short Id say the new owners wouldnt have a hope in hell.

How about this scenerio.
The feds sell mascot to a private buyer on the understanding that
Badgerys Creek isnt going to be built.
At the next federal election,the Labor party is elected and
immediately announces that it will build Badgerys Creek.
Who pays compensation now?
