Freight Australia have allocated 10 engines for
this Service, but only 3 Fuel Bunkers and 3 Crew Vans. The extra Locos must be
to cover engines out of position, and maintenance. They must expect to only have
three trains on the track at once. Is that possible considering the distance to
be travelled...leave that one to the experts! Now the award stipulates that the
crews will have 5 (8?) hours off [at half pay] between driving stints, 24
clear hours off between jobs (starting from Midnight after finish of previous
shift) and 11 hours off before returning, or something near to this..... So the
more studious types out there might be able to work out the number of rosters
involved.
Others have mentioned the ex AN Crew Vans being
prepared for the Perth Melbourne Service. I have been led to believe that
they will have separate Bed Rooms, A kitchen, A Common Room and Entertainment
area and be very comfortable indeed. Now for the truth of the matter, could our
West Coast Guru tell us what is happening with the Van in their
care??
It is probable that the Crew will go all the way at
first, but changeovers will be the go if and when Freight Australia purchase
West Rail, which is highly likely at this stage. [Who-ever heard of a Politician
who could keep his mouth shut, anyway? ;o)]
The G Class will run to Perth and back without
refuelling! A Fuel bunker will be semi-permanently spliced between two G Class
Locomotives for the trip.
These engines will all receive 3500 hp engines,
depending on who you speak with.
I have photos included in the site
below.
Its a bit of a pain to enter as you have to join it
before you get access!
but give false info if you don't care for the
questionnaire and use a Hotmail or other separate E mail address to get your E
mail permission to enter the site.
As a matter of interest I have never received spam
from this site in 3 months since joining.
If anyone else {if you cannot enter freedrive}wants
the photos of the new Fuel tankers e mail me and I will send them to
you.
Now a question...Does this mean that Freight
Australia will now announce something like this......And so looking into the
near future
..TA DA A A..............
Today Freight Australia's first train arrived in
Perth from Melbourne.....This is a truly historic occasion as
this is the first time in Australia's history that a Privately
owned Railway Corporation as linked Australia from East Coast to West
Coast...Truly a Transcontinental Railway!
Cheers
