Keep him active on the train, you might get him to go off - either that or
fill him up with beer (hey, it helps me sleep on the train!)

For interstate, they are only free if not occupying a seat - you could try,
but don't be surprised if you end up sharing. I don't know what rules GSR
havre in place regarding which type of berth you get.
