Re: [NSW] S set air condition trial



As Far as I recall these cars were designed for a life span of 40 to 45
years. This thread has me intrigued as there is are no actual details as to
how these cars are to be air-conditioned.  I think it is a good idea as
Sydney has fallen behind Perth and Brisbane with an all air-conditioned
fleet, although they had the advantage of starting from scratch.  However,
the V sets were built at the same time as the S sets and they were
air-conditioned although I suspect different philosophies applied to inter
urban and suburban set then no doubt as the inter urban runs were thought as
of being more prestigious.  Now the interurban runs are just extended
suburban runs and shouldn't receive any better consideration then the
suburban service. They probably lose more money on the interurban runs. To
throw the cat amongst the chickens they should pull the XPT's off the losing
North Coast runs and use them to run an up market fast Newcastle service.
