Re: What happened to Seven Hills??

Time to rehijack Chris :=)

I find that that most of the time in Mlebourne, a lot of the trains are not
express and that most of the peak hour trains have more varied patterns.
This is also the case in Sydney, even though as a matter of course, there
are more (I think) express trains where express means not stopping all
stations.

Am I the only one who gets confused about the way Melbourne's system
announces the stations? To give you an example:

This is the stopping pattern from Penrith to Central for the intercities
that I catch stated both ways.

Sydney - Blacktown, Westmead, Parramatta, Strathfield, Central.
Melbourne - Express to Blacktown, Express to Westmead, Express to
Parramatta*, Express to Strathfield, Epxress to Central.

* There are no stops between Westmead and Parramatta so as far as Melbourne
would be concerned, it would qualify as an express, would it not? Or would
it be announces express to Westmead, then Parramatta, express to Strathfield
etc?

The White Zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers
only. There is no stopping in a Red Zone.

| Hijack time, This used to happen in Melbourne quite a lot, drivers
| stopping where they should go express and going express where they are
| to stop. Once guards were removed I noticed a lot less of this and now
| it is almost nil, why? I don't know maybe it has something to do with
| drivers needing to open/shut doors so they are more aware they have to
| stop or go express, maybe it is they have to look up the timetable know
| where they are stopping to make announcements. Ie a driver making an
| announcements at Richmond to say "Lilydale train running express
| Richmond to Box Hill then Blackburn, Mitcham and Ringwood and all
| stations to Lilydale" then he remembers he goes express through
| Labuurnam, Nunawading and Heatherdale where almost all trains normally
| stop.
