Re: [NSW] Not enough rolling stock.......

This thread seems to be missing a couuple of basis points. No matter how
many trains are provided, there will be inevitable delays to passengers. It
should be expected by all concerned as a part of mounting the Olympic Games.
Despite all the rhetoric so far, Sydney is FAR MORE ready for an Olympic
Games transport wise than any city in living memory. The draft timetables
now on the CityRail site show the extent of the services being provided for
the period. Yes, there will be reduced services on some lines not directly
conveying pax to the various venues. But there will be increased services
where they are wanted (by ORTA anyway). A democracy dictates that we much
sacrifice our comforts (the excellent cityrail service normally provided) to
allow for the requirements of the majority of passengers during the two and
a bit weeks the timetable is in operation.

There are many Sydney residents who will for many reasons not be using their
normal train service during the period - holidays compulsory or otherwise.
Any employer worth his/her salt will be tollerant to late arrivals etc.
during the period - if not the job you have got is not worth the pay you are
getting.

Be proud of the Olympic Games and stop knocking them just because you might
have to stand a little longer on a train or take a bus from about 4 stations
(in the electrified area) which will not see a service at all.

As to extra trains from interstate or heritage operators. There will be just
enough drivers and guards to run the proposed schedules. It is no good
having rolling stock if there is no crews to man them! We have all seen the
result of trying to train crews "Off the Street". The Endeavor sets released
from Dapto - Nowra and Moss Vale - Goulburn runs will be used to double the
capacity of the services shown in the Olympic timetable - it does not take
much logic to work that out.
