AM means it is a Mann type sleeper , ie with berths crossways and the T is
just to distinguish it from other Mann type sleepers.

Pullmans, with the berths longitudinally were generally code something AL
such as MAL.

As with all of the NSW coding system there were exceptions. Why make it
easy?
