Moving 6042 by rail is not an option. At some stage it would need to be
transferred to rad to get it to Dorrigo. It needs to be split into 5 pieces
(front and rear engine unit, front and rear tank and boiler). DSRM owns a
quad axle float and a tri axle tailer. The major cost would be crane hire at
Forbes. The engine units would be rolled off at Dorrigo. The tanks would be
unloaded by a combination of DSRM's mobile crane and jacking. The boiler
unit would be unloaded by jacking. Its a slow process, but this method has
been used successfully on numerous locomotives, including 4602. DSRM have
already moved a 60 class boiler & frame to Dorrigo.

The main reason 6042 is still at Forbes is that there is a more pressing
need to move other pieces of rolling stock. Recent movements to Dorrigo have
included 4602, BHP47, BHP52, CF5004, CF5024, X204, 633/733, 4 Silver City
Comet trailer cars and 4 bogie goods wagons. The Silver City Comet power
car, 4 car DEB set, 4521, 4420 and 4822 are currently the most pressing
transport problems.
