I believe JR Kyushu have tilting electric sleeping car trains on 3'6 -
haven't seen them though so could be wrong. JR Hokkaido has diesel tilt
trains 'Super Hakuto" which are really comfortable and cut about 2 hours off
the journey Hakodate-Sapporo. Unfortunately they appear to have been built
diesel because of an approx 70km gap in the 300km approx electrification,
and I would sooner they had put up some wire and not worried about the
diesel.
