Re: Newcastle realignment
Is there an EMU speed limit on suburban track of 115km/h?
If not is there a differential speed limit for V-sets versus suburban sets
or other variations?
I recall years ago that V-sets were allowed to work up to 130km/h otherwise
subject to obeyance of XPT speed boards, but I thought this was rescinded
some years later. Did this 130km/h limit apply to interurban track only?
Was it rescinded?
In the late 80s and very early 90s on the short north, start-stop timetable
allowances for Gosford - Wyong express was 12" for 20.14km and Wyong -
Morriset express was 13" for 22km (approx). Both averages of just over
100km/h. These timing were readily achievable with V-sets and some hardish
driving. 115km/h certainly wasn't (shouldn't have been) the speed limit to
achieve these timings.
As an aside just over 11" was possible from Morriset to Wyong (start-stop
express) but this required much 145+km/h running and a late, confident and
very serious service brake application to stop at Wyong. Gave a start-stop
average of 120km/h.
Anyway, a detailed answer to the passenger train speed limits would be
great.
Thanks
Chris
