Hi there and HNY
Tram 41 involved in the derailment at Glenferrie & Malvern was operating the
last down rte 72 sevice to Camberwell. The tram operator allegedly
approached the junction which was set for Glenferrie road and failed to stop
to change the points derailed on the curve and collided with various objects
(ie chemist shop power pole and fire hydrant). The vehicle concered was
extensivly damaged. The tram was at Malvern Depot by 10h00 on 30/12/99 and
was transported to Adtranz at Dandenong by low loader for repairs.
Glenferrie & Malvern intersection was closed to all traffic except trams
until about 12h00 on the 30/12/99.
The incident is currently being investigated by Swanston Trams.
